Yes, you too can be a part of the bustling literary enterprise that is TNQ. There are lots of ways to support our magazine (besides reading it of course!):
Great writing keeps us in print. When you send a story or poem to The New Quarterly, it doesn't just go into the 'slush pile'---what some publishers call their incoming unsolicited manuscripts, which are generally read by a hapless intern or trained monkey---because we don't have one (slush pile, I mean). Every submission is read by a bona fide TNQ Editor. In fact, insofar as the demands of their day jobs/kids/dogs/parole officers/pie-eating contest coaches/etc. allow, our editors provide feedback on submissions that they feel may benefit from it.
Subscribe. Or, if you already do -- Give a Gift Subscription
There are so many reasons to subscribe to TNQ. To meet famous writers before they are famous. To get to know the writers' craft from the inside out. To learn something new. To get something besides bills and flyers in your mailbox once in a while. To save some $. (Subscribe, and you save about $14 versus buying them off the newsstand - that's a lot of doughnuts! Or crayons, hamsters...whatever you spend your extra cash on). Convinced? Click here to subscribe online.
And lastly, a few reasons of ours: our grants and much of our other income is directly tied to the size of our mailing list, so the more readers we have, the more funding we get and the better able we are to continue putting out this fab publication. Also, when you subscribe, every one of your dollars goes to TNQ, to publish the writers whose work you love. (When you buy 'em here and there on the newsstands, a few of your dollars have to go toward filling the tanks of the trucks that take the mags to those stores -- and the less of that we have to do, the better off we all are, as a planet!)
The New Quarterly's board of directors is looking to expand. If you live in the Kitchener-Waterloo area and think you might be interested in joining the group, please click here to learn more.
The New Quarterly mails an annual appeal to its subscribers, friends, and family every Spring, but we gratefully accept donations at any time of year. If you would like to receive a copy of our most recent appeal package, please write to Rosalynn Tyo, Managing Editor, at orders@tnq.ca.
*** Please note: as of January 2008, The New Quarterly is no longer able to provide tax receipts for donations received. We know that this decision (not ours to make, unfortunately) will have implications for some of you, and we understand but hope that you will continue to support our magazine. We so appreciate your help in all of the forms mentioned above.
