The Board of Directors is seeking a Fundraising Co-Chair.

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join The New Quarterly’s Board of Directors as the Fundraising Co-Chair. This role is ideal for both seasoned professionals with five or more years of fundraising experience and newcomers eager to kickstart a career in fundraising. As a Fundraising Co-Chair, you will play a pivotal role in supporting The New Quarterly’s mission and initiatives by raising funds crucial to the sustainability and success of our organization. You must also have a passion for literature and supporting Canadian authors. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Fundraising Strategy: Collaborate with the fundraising committee to develop and implement effective fundraising strategies aligned with the TNQ’s goals.
  2. Donor Engagement: Cultivate relationships with potential donors, individuals, and corporate partners to secure financial support and long-term commitment.
  3. Campaign Management: Manage fundraising campaigns, events, and initiatives, ensuring their successful execution and meeting set targets.
  4. Communication and Outreach: Co-create compelling fundraising materials, including proposals, presentations, and donor communications, to effectively convey TNQ’s mission and impact.
  5. Data Management: Maintain accurate donor databases, track donations, and generate reports to analyze fundraising progress and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in fundraising or related fields preferred but not required for enthusiastic candidates looking to enter the fundraising sector.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with donors and create impactful fundraising materials.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across departments to achieve fundraising objectives.
  • Passion for the Cause: Genuine interest in TNQ’s mission and commitment to nurturing emerging writers and supporting Canadian authors.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Literary Passion: A genuine passion for reading, writing, Canadian fiction, non-fiction, and/or poetry.

About Our Board

Our board members love to read and appreciates the importance of having our own, Canadian literary culture. We welcome board members with experience in publishing, digital technology, retail, promotion, media, law, and accounting.

In addition to overseeing the magazine’s finances and general administration (approving budgets and the like), our board:

  • takes an active role in fundraising (specifically occasionally assisting with Bingo)
  • takes on roles on the editorial side of TNQ: interviewing writers, helping to organize and host readings
  • takes advantage of professional development opportunities (e.g., Magazines Canada consultations on fundraising, human resources management, branding, and web marketing).

Our board meets quarterly on the third Thursday of the month.
